Two teams from the South African Premier League will face each other in the NedBank Cup Ro16, as AmaZulu will travel to Kempton Park to play Sekhukhune United. Match will begin on Thursday, March 14, at 6 PM CET.
Sekhukhune United
One of the youngest organizations in South Africa, Sekhukhune United was formed in 2020, advanced to the topflight in 2021 and have not looked back ever since.
Still seeking their first title outside of winning the National League, the Hedgehogs are only three points behind Orlando Pirates in a race for second in the Premiership. In the cup, however, things are different: a team from Limpopo advanced to the Round of 16, but needed a penalty shootout to eliminate Highlands Park from the third tier of local football.
AmaZulu
Visiting one of the new players on the local market will be AmaZulu. Formed as Zulu Royals nearly a century ago, Usuthu were the champions back in 1972, but have never won the NedBank Cup, making the final six times, last time in 2010.
While AmaZulu is stuck in the second half of the standings of the Premiership, they have triumphed in a Durban derby last round, eliminating Royal AM with a clean “1-0” victory.
Prediction ⚽️
After their respective victories in the NedBank Cup, AmaZulu are yet to post a win in the Premiership, while Sekhukhune United got two in a row at home, while mixing a draw at CAF Confederations Cup on the road.
In a head-to-head back in December, Usuthu earned a hard fought “1-0” victory, but this time Sekhukhune United might post a first win in the series since 2021. We will side with the home team securing a win in the regulation time, without needing overtime or penalty shootout.
