The first ever English football league premier division champions, Preston North End have not been to the topflight since 1961, as they are entrenched in the EFL Championship for the last nine campaigns.
The latest one might become the most successful one, if the Lilywhites keep performing as they have done since February. A victory over Plymouth Argyle in the last round put Preston only five points behind a coveted sixth place with a game to spare. Rotherham United will go back to League One unless an absolute miracle happens, as the Millers are 19 points away from a safe zone with only eight games remaining on the schedule.
Finally snapping a nine game losing streak, Rotherham still score the least goals together with Sheffield Wednesday but have the most porous defense in the Championship by a considerable margin. A scoreless draw against Huddersfield Town in the last round helped to at least earn a point, but now the visit to Deepdale looms, as the outsiders want to slam the door before the exit.
